DIRECTING
THE HOMECOMING

Harold Pinter won the Nobel Prize for Drama in 2005. In 1969 I directed his most famous play, THE HOMECOMING, at the Exeter Northcott Theatre, England.

"Pinter was notorious for not giving interviews or discussing his writing, but made exception in this case. They also met twice on social occasions".

The 'in-the-round' stage

            HEARD, A DISCOURAGING WORD

The play was well reviewed and the hit of the season. However, it did not meet with all tastes. While Pinter starred as Lenny in the Watford production in London and our production was sold out, not all denizens of Exeter were ecstatic about our production.
The oblique, demanding graphic structure of a Pinter play is not for the average theatre goer.
Follows two letters from local provincials, who obviously could not make heads or tales out of the production, probably being more accustomed to simple minded music hall fare.
