CRESTON DOUKHOBOR SOCIETY
DECIDES TO SELL PRAYER HOME
At a specially convened meeting July 23, 2016, the Creston Doukhobor Society met to consider a special motion:
Be it resolved that the assets of the Creston Doukhobor Society, consisting of the Doukhobor Prayer Home at 3411 Erickson Road, be liquidated as soon as suitable purchasers are found.
The motion was presented by Alex Ewashen, Treasurer, seconded by Bob Ewashen.
Not withstanding the fact that all of the Creston Doukhobor Society membership has voiced their approval to sell the Doukhobor Hall, we have been advised by our local Notary Public that we must call a special meeting, and pass a Special Resolution approving the sale. This resolution must pass with a 70% majority vote.
Rationale: Sale of the assets of the Creston Doukhobor Society require a vote by membership held at a special meeting of the Society.
It was further noted that the Heartland Mennonite Brethren currently renting the hall have agreed to the purchase.
Larry Ewashen commented on the historical relationship of the Mennonites and Doukhobors based on pacifist principles.
Alex Wishlow, long standing president, spoke about his long relationship with the hall as one of the original builders and how sad it was to see this relationship end.
After some discussion, and with regret, the motion was passed unanimously by all present.
Farewell 3411 Erickson Road. The CDS Doukhobor Hall served the Doukhobor community of Creston for fifty years.
