PETER V. VERIGIN
One of the hallmarks of Doukhobor life style was simplicity which resulted in a holistic and self sufficient ecological life style.
Their motto of Toil and Peaceful Life left little room for frivolities or pettiness. Their diet was simple and ecological - no fancy or foreign spices appeared. One could say it was bland, some salt and dried red pepper made it more savoury, Still, there was a sweet tooth and occasional sugar was bought to have with tea and kalachi. Peter Verigin, looking to economize, decided they should have their own 'swleetener'. To this end, a beehive department was begun, and he put my grandfather, one of his favourite nephews, son of his older brother Vasilii, Peter Verigin, in charge.
