1750-1775: Sylvan Kolesnikov from Ekaterinoslav province appears as the first known Doukhobor leader. He adopts the views of the unknown wanderer who proclaimed pacifism and opposition to official spiritualism and to ikon worship. Kolesnikov argues that externalities have no significance; Doukhobors may conform to any ceremonies they wish, survival technique). 1899 - The first of 7500 Doukhobors arrive on the S.S. Lake Huron which lands at Halifax. 
1899 - The second ship, the S. S. Lake Superior arrives at St. John,     New  Brunswick.
1899 -The S.S. Lake Superior arrives in Quebec City with Doukhobors from   Cyprus.


1900 - This remarkable event gave rise to some absurd speculations, some by the D’s themselves. One such theory offered the speculation that Queen Victoria gave ‘permission’ for the D’s to inhabit Canada, and gave exemption from military service for one hundred years.

1901 - Canadian government serves notice that Doukhobors now require individual homestead entry. Although the Doukhobors arrived with a guarantee of ‘land in a bloc’, and control of internal affairs, the government exerted presure for individual registration from the very beginning.

1908 - These pressures and the oath requirement in particular result in a decision of giving up their hard earned land and migrate to British Columbia.

2008 - KDHS annual General Meeting and the public opening celebration of the Doukhobor Discovery Centre noting two important HSMBC designations, Peter V. Verigin is named as a person of National Distinction and the migration of the Doukhobors from SK to BC an event of National importance.
